7- Sister Marsmaker's birthday! :D
8- Another sketchy stop-by... :l
9- Fun at the Richardsons!
1- Well, Sister Marsmaker and I got up bright and early on P-Day morning, then planned out our day. A couple minutes later, we got a message from the Cowleys saying that because of freezing rain, we were grounded until noon. -_- We had planned to get all our shopping and stuff done early, head over to get haircuts, then hang out at the church until district sports to call our families and send emails.
1- RIP to our perfect plans. We cleaned the apartment a bit, then I worked on emails and stuff. We also talked for a couple of hours with each other so we didn't go completely crazy. XD We didn't go to P-Day sports, though, because we wanted to talk to our families, and since we no longer have Wifi at the apartment, that meant camping out at the church.
1- As I said last week, the weather's been a little warmer. It was above freezing and drizzly all day. That meant that everything was slick and icy. The sky was warm enough for the rain to fall, but it would freeze as soon as it touched snow. We were slipping around in parking lots. XD
2- We were told to get back to our apartments by 5:00 and not drive unless absolutely necessary, so we did so. As soon as we walked out of the church, we saw that the weather had changed drastically. It had dropped a dozen degrees or more, snow was flying, and the wind moaned like a tortured animal. I hadn't brought anything more than a sweater, so Sister Marsmaker let me borrow a hat to stop my ears from freezing. Visibility kept growing worse as we drove home. We spent the evening cooped up in the apartment, listening to the howling wind outside. We mostly did texting and calling people, with little success.
3- Tuesday morning, we got ready for Zone Conference! It was back to being around -20ish Celcius. We drove slowly and carefully, and were able to get to the right building on time! We had a lot of talks and trainings given by the Social Media missionaries and our mission president. I took a lot of notes!
3- At the end, we got a box lunch to go. Costco hotdogs, apples or oranges, chips (they were kind of stale and gross, haha), and homemade oatmeal cookies that President Cowley made for us! Sister Marsmaker and I had to snarf our food on the go because we were late to the Mustard Seed!
4- The Zone Conference sport was frisbee dodgeball! The rules were pretty simple: A bunch of foam frisbees were laid out in the middle of the gym, there were two teams, and we had to throw frisbees at each other. If we got hit, we were out. If someone caught the frisbee that we threw, we were out. We played a couple of different rounds with slightly different rules. My favorite was when there was a doctor who could revive people that got out!
4- I was abyssmal. XD I always seemed to last a long time. Once I was maybe the third or fourth person left on my team! But that's only because my first instict is to dodge when someone throws something in my general direction. I was bad at throwing. XD I only got a couple Elders out because they'd try to catch the frisbees I threw and then they'd fumble and drop it. It was a fun game, though!
5- We were a bit late to the Mustard Seed, like I said. Zone Conference ran a little late. Sister Marsmaker and I got there in time to help serve the food. She scooped rice and I scooped a mix of peas and cubed carrots. Another friend helped with curry-sauce-coated chicken. We packaged, cleaned up, and did the dishes, then got out with time to spare! It was good, though, because we hadn't been able to plan our day yet, and we used the extra time to figure out how to fill our evening.
6- Exchanges have been awesome! Sister Smith and Sister Cannon came over early Wednesday morning. Sister Marsmaker went with Sister Cannon to Clareview while Sister Smith and I stayed in Londonderry. We went to the church early to prepare for a lesson. Unfortunately, the friend that we were supposed to be teaching canceled on us... for the second week in a row. -_- I'm honestly getting a little frustrated because she keeps choosing times that are early enough to wreck our normal morning schedule, and then she cancels and we have to fill the gap with something else. But... *sigh* I really need to just assume the best. I'm sure she's not doing it to inconvenience us.
6- Okay, venting aside, exchange day was wonderful! We had slightly later personal and companion study than normal because of a crazy morning schedule, then we started doing Facebook stuff and contacting people. I've been trying my best to start conversations with people on Facebook and I really hope that things will come from them! Sister Marsmaker and I also made a goal to at least attempt contacting all the members in our area, so Sister Smith and I worked our way down part of that list today. We called and texted at least two dozen members in two hours! It was greuling!
6- Most of the members didn't answer, so we left messages. A lot of phone numbers were old and didn't work, so we alerted Brother Fortin, the ward clerk, to fix the contact info. A couple members were very snappy with us and kind of made me lose my nerve. XD I was scared of getting my head bitten off by crotchety old people, so Sister Smith kind of took over the phone calls for a while. We were able to make successful and positive contact with maybe one member, haha.
6- On the bright side, we finally had an actual lesson with a new friend! We called him and Sister Smith was good at keeping the conversation directed and stopping him from rambling. She didn't rudely cut him off, but she also didn't lose control of what we were saying. We taught him, prayed with him, and ended up visiting him later in the afternoon to drop off a Book of Mormon! I'm so excited to talk to him again!
7- This Thursday was Sister Marsmaker's birthday! We went to the Mustard Seed and had fun seasoning chicken and stuff. Then, we went to the church to do weekly planning. It was a bit less draggy than normal, probably because we had fun plans for that evening! We ended up getting in more member lessons than normal, and we had a tasty dinner! I made a smoothie, which I haven't in a while, and Sister Marsmaker cooked a delicious hamburger helper. It took a while to cook, so we actually started eating cake before the main course, haha. But who doesn't want to eat cake, a homemade fruit smoothie, and ice cream for dinner? (Don't worry, mom, we ate our protein and healthy stuff in the last few minutes of dinner. XD)
8- We got another referral for a guy living in downtown. The drive was nerve-wracking, but the dude was super nice! We brought him a WWJD bracelet. (What Would Jesus Do?) He was very friendly and talkative! Turns out, he was a member a long time ago and fell away from the church. He says he wants to return and to come closer to God, though. He told us that he'll look to the bracelet to remind him of the right direction to take. I really hope we get to meet with him again! He's one of the brightest, funniest, most honest guys I've met on the mission, and I know that regrowing his relationship with God and Jesus Christ will help to improve his life so much!
9- After giving a bracelet to our new friend, we drove to the Richardson family for service. We had lots of fun helping to clean and move stuff around in Sister Richardson's room. We made a lot of progress and will likely come back to help a bit more later. We moved her bed and rearranged some furniture to make a bigger space. Her cat was super curious about everything we were doing and kept jumping on all the boxes and furniture. XD
Welp, that's about it! I can't really remember much else, haha... I'm pretty tired right now.
